WE ARE SO PROUD TO SHARE THE NEWS OF ONE OF OUR MEMBERS SUCCESS IN A LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

JANE DALES

Here is her story

I have always been interested in photography since I was at school, but never really did anything about it!
When I first met my husband Graeme, over 23 years ago, he encouraged me, and bought me my first camera.
He then bought me a digital SLR photography course for my birthday. This was when I really started learning about photography.
Then at Christmas came a new camera, the camera I still have and use today.

Every time there was a birthday or Christmas Graeme would buy me a new piece of photographic equipment. He was constantly encouraging and supporting me.
At the time we were living in Dubai and had the opportunity to travel extensively. This gave me some amazing photo opportunities.

I love photography , its like painting with images.
Composition is one of the key elements of a good photo.

Very recently I came second in a local photography competition run by our town Ayuntamiento

(photo below)

I used my phone to take this shot. I often use my phone these days.
Its not the equipment you have but how you use it that matters.

Jane is an extremely talented photographer and we would like to share some of her work with you:

This shot is of the iconic 7 star hotel Burj Al Arab

Next is mixing old and new Dubai . Again the Burj Al arab, an old mosque in the centre and then Jumeriah Beach hotel on the left
Next is a fire tug boat also taken on the San Francisco Bay. Jane said she decided to make the background black and white and used the red of the boat as an accent

This photo was taken in Granada. Just loved the colours and the people

This is the iconic San Francisco bay bridge. Taken at sunset with a very long shutter speed to capture the lights.
Jane said that they waited for ages, in the cold, till the light was just right for this shot!

Here we have Californian poppies taken in, you guessed it California, San Francisco to be exact

 An inquisitive camel

Showing that Jane is talented in all genres of photography, here is a photo she took of her daughter Laura.

This is a lotus flower taken in Thailand

WENDY HAMILTON’S MAR MENOR SWIM

Sonrisas Harmony were thrilled to be part of Wendy Hamilton’s adventurous day on Saturday 3rd June.

We sang at La Playa Bar after Wendy finished a mammoth swim across The Mar Menor from La Manga to Los Alcazares.  Since moving to spain, Wendy has always wanted to swim across the bay and yesterday her idea actually became a reality.  Wendy started swimming at 7am and battled the waves, wind and being stung by a jellyfish, to finish at 11.30am.  Wendy was swimming to raise money for San Jose Obrero Orphanage aswell as P.A.P.S where she volunteers.

(P.A.P.S – Dog rescue centre in El Mirador)

It was an exciting day and just over €3000 was raised for both these charities
